Mobile casino domain sale breaks .mobi
record

How
much would you pay for the casino.mobi domain?
Well at least one buyer
was willing to pay $135,000 in a deal brokered recently by
domain sales specialists Moniker ( an Oversee.net company).
It was reported last week
by Reuters that Infomeda are now the new owners of the coveted
casino domain in what is believed to be a record price for .mobi
domains. It comfortably surpasses all known previous
benchmarks including Fun.mobi (US$100,000 in 2007),
RealEstate.mobi (US$85,000 in 2007), and Tickets.mobi (US$60,000
in 2008).
And Infomedia's plans for
the new address? Not surprisingly they'll be using it for
a mobile casino portal including information related to
terrestrial casinos as well as of course mobile casinos.
There are also plans to add play for fee casino and other games
in a kind of App Store type arrangement.
Infomedia plan to hard
launch the new portal in the coming months, but already have
a bet site up and running.
The sale has been hailed
as a reaffirmation in the potential of mobile phones as a viable
delivery mechanism for casino games. Continued improvement
in handset quality, as regards screen size, resolution and
processing speeds have made the running of game applications far
more user friendly. And the growing penetration of iPhones
and competing offerings from other manufactures are starting to
provide casinos and game developers with the delivery mechanism
they have been waiting for.
